藤原北家純友流.大村氏と同族.長崎県南高来郡有馬町[肥前国高来郡有馬庄]を発祥の地とする.有馬友澄が鎌倉幕府から肥前国高来郡有馬庄の地頭職に任ぜられて有馬を称したことが起源という.有馬貴澄の代に松浦・波多・草野・志佐・田比良の各氏を抑えて国人領主として台頭.さらに,有馬貴澄の孫の晴純の代に大村・平井・多久・後藤・西郷・伊福の各氏をも抑え,彼杵・杵島・松浦・藤津五郡に覇を唱えた.
家紋は五瓜に唐花など.
