岩手県奥州市前沢古城[関村]を発祥の地とする.
上麻生村・関村・目呂木村が1875[明治8]年に合併し稲置村となり,1889[明治22]年に古城村と稲置村の旧関村地域が合併し古城村となる.1955[昭和30]年,胆沢郡前沢町・白山村・古城村,東磐井郡生母村が合併し胆沢郡前沢町に.2006[平成18]年, 江刺市・水沢市・胆沢町・衣川村と前沢町が合併し奥州市誕生.旧関村は奥州市前沢古城となった.
