藤原氏族.高知県高知市大津を発祥の地とする.大津御所とも呼ばれた天竺城に拠った.土佐守護細川氏の家臣.細川氏庶流とも伝わるが,天竺系中村氏系図には藤原氏とある.
天竺城は,天文16[1547]年に,長宗我部国親によって攻められ落城.城主の天竺花氏と家臣の井上氏・横山氏・依光氏・坂本氏・宮地氏・長崎氏は城東下屋敷にて切腹したという.
家紋は日の丸扇[扇に月丸]など.
