藤原北家宇都宮流.嵯峨源氏松浦氏族の流れを汲む蒲池武久[-1336]は菊池武敏とともに南朝方に属し,多々良が浜の戦いで足利尊氏と戦い討死.その娘と結婚した宇都宮久憲が蒲池氏の名跡を相続.蒲池武久までを前蒲池氏,蒲池久憲以降を後蒲池氏と呼ぶ.
