丹波長直が錦小路と称した.戦国時代,錦小路盛直[1493-1548]の代で断絶.しかし,庶流の錦小路頼豊は越前国小森庄[おもりのしょう]を領し小森を名乗り存続.頼豊の子・頼秀が錦小路に復す.その後,小森頼季が院宣により小森に復すが,船橋頼季の子で頼季の養子となった小森頼庸が錦小路家を再興.宝永4[1707]年に錦小路を称するようになる.
家紋は梅など.
