藤原北家中御門流園家庶流.
江戸時代に葉川基章*の子・俊平[1694/1729]が壬生に改める.
1869[明治2]年6月,壬生基修が鳥羽伏見の戦い等の戦功により永世禄200石を賜る.1884[明治17]年7月8日,壬生基修が子爵を授爵.1891[明治24]年4月23日,壬生基修は伯爵に陞爵.
家紋は杜若など.
