清和源氏武田氏.加賀美遠光[1143-1230]の嫡男・光朝[-1185]を祖とする.光朝が甲斐国巨摩郡秋山村を本拠地として秋山太郎を称したことが起源.
この秋山氏は山梨県の他,静岡県,香川県に拡がった.
