富山県射水市放生津町四十物町などを発祥の地とする.四十物と書いて「あいもの」と読む.これは,生魚と干物の中間のものを「あいもの」と呼んだことに由来.この商品を扱う商店が商品の数が40種類ほどもあったことから「四十物屋」と称していたものが名字となった.
