宇多源氏佐々木氏流.京極氏4代当主である京極宗氏[1263-1329]の弟・宗満が近江国伊香郡黒田村を本拠として黒田を称したことが起源.室町幕府将軍の奉公衆として活躍.代表的家紋は丸に隅立て四つ目.
