宮内省主殿寮殿部[とのもり]の負名氏[なおいのうじ]の一つ.大和国葛上郡日置郷を本拠地とした.葛城の鴨氏と類縁関係にあったとされる.葛城の鴨氏の祀る阿治須岐託彦根[あじすきたかひこね]神の妻が日置氏の祀る阿麻乃弥加都比女[あまのみかつひめ]に当たる["尾張国風土記"]. 代表的家紋は丸に洲浜.
