藤原北家秀郷流内藤氏族.大阪府堺市をゆかりの地とする.丹波国守護代・内藤貞正の弟・久清の子次忠が小西を初めて称する.小西次忠の子・小西隆佐[-1592]が豊臣秀吉の家臣となった.その子の小西行長[1558-1600]は肥後宇土城主となるも,関ヶ原の戦いで敗れ斬首.家紋は花久留子など.
