小野氏族.新潟県西蒲原郡弥彦村山岸を発祥の地とする.弥彦神社の東方の丘陵上にある越後桔梗城[弥彦村大字弥彦字荒城]に拠ったと伝わる.桔梗城は天喜年間[1053-1058]に吉川宗方が築城.その後,永正年間に大須賀氏の支配を経て,上杉謙信の代に黒瀧城[弥彦村大字麓字要害]の山岸光祐が城将を務めた.家紋は丸に三つ柏など.
