坂上姓田村氏族.秋田県横手市雄物川町沼館を発祥の地とする.後三年の役において清原家衡が源義家を敗った沼の柵[沼館]は,源義家が勝利した後に庄司次郎の館となったと伝わる.源義家は庄司次郎の配下の小野寺氏に命じて沼館八幡宮を建立したという.家紋は五瓜に唐花など.
