桓武平氏良文流千葉氏族.千葉市緑区平川町本郷を発祥の地とする.千葉常胤の家臣・平川五郎胤次は平川館に拠った.平川館は代々の平川氏の居館となり,現在は皇太神社が鎮座している.家紋は丸に立ち澤瀉など.
