良岑氏族／村上源氏族.岐阜県各務原市須衛字稲田を発祥の地とする.
尾張国上四郡を支配した岩倉織田氏[伊勢守家]の家老を務める家柄.稲田貞祐が織田信長への内通という嫌疑により切腹.子の稲田植元[1545-1628]は蜂須賀小六正勝[1526-1586]に預けられる.後に,稲田植元は蜂須賀正勝とともに羽柴秀吉に仕えた.
蜂須賀家の筆頭家老家.洲本城代.
家紋は丸に矢筈など.
