清和源氏小笠原氏族.長野県佐久市岩村田[信濃国佐久郡大井郷]を発祥の地とする.小笠原長清の子の朝光が大井庄の地頭に任ぜられ岩村田に拠って大井を称したことが起源.家紋は松皮菱など.
