愛知県春日井市大留町を発祥の地とする.天文15[1546]年,足利義輝の被官・村瀬作左衛門が大留城を築城したことが知られる.小牧・長久手の戦い[1584]の際には,豊臣秀吉方として徳川家康軍と対峙.村瀬作左衛門は池田恒興,森長可とともに討ち死に.家紋は九曜など.
